“O preconceito racial é um fenômeno de grande complexidade. Por isso, costumo compará-lo a um iceberg cuja parte visível corresponderia às manifestações do preconceito, tais como as práticas discriminatórias que podemos observar através de comportamentos sociais e individuais. [...] À parte submersa do iceberg correspondem, metaforicamente, os preconceitos não manifestos, presentes invisivelmente na cabeça dos indivíduos, e as consequências dos efeitos da discriminação na estrutura psíquica das pessoas."

 

"Racial prejudice is a phenomenon of great complexity. For that reason, I usually compare it to an iceberg where the visible part would correspond to the manifestations of the prejudice, such as discriminatory practices we can observe through social and individual behavior.  [...] The submerged part of the iceberg corresponds, metaphorically, to the not manifested prejudices, invisibly present in individuals' minds, and the consequences of the discrimination effects in people's psychic structure."
