“O preconceito é, possivelmente, uma das mais eficientes e perversas estratégias de controle e de exclusão sociais, pois a violência das representações preconceituosas perfura/ilude as estruturas psíquicas conscientes e, como em um susto-traumático, instala-se na irracionalidade da vida psíquica e reverbera continuamente seus efeitos deletérios. Sem o saber, os indivíduos desarmados de qualquer possibilidade de defesa assumem, como suas, as “perversidades” que são difundidas pelas “ideias” preconceituosas. Aderem mais ou menos conscientes aos atributos de malignidade que lhes são impingidos. A labilidade psíquica cede espaço para a implantação na vida mental dessa atribuição, e o indivíduo acaba por tomá-la como se fosse originária de si próprio. É nesse processo de identificação inconsciente com tais atribuições que o indivíduo se torna cúmplice deste processo social que o violenta e rejeita.”

 

"Prejudice is possibly one of the most efficient and perverse control strategy and of social exclusion, because the violence of the prejudiced representations pierces/deceives the conscious psychic structures and, as in a traumatic shock, settles in the irrationality of psychic life and reverberates continuously its deleterious effects. Without knowing it, individuals disarmed of any possibility of defense undertake as theirs, the "perversities" that are widespread by prejudiced "ideas". They partially consciously adhere to the attributes of malignancy that are forced upon them. The psychic liability gives way to the implantation of this attribution in mental life, and the individual eventually takes it as if it were originating from himself. It is in this process of unconscious identification with such attributions that the individual becomes an accomplice to this social process that violates and rejects him."
